Children with type 1 diabetes meet with England rugby player

The children of SNACKPACK, together with all the other children with Type 1 diabetes who come under the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital all had the opportunity on 26th May to attend an evening with Henry Slade, the Exeter Chiefs and England Rugby player at Sandy Park. The event was put on by Dr Chris Moudiotis, the Consultant Paediatric Diabetic lead, together with his team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Henry was diagnosed with Type 1 at the age of 17, just as he joined Exeter Chiefs. He has not allowed his diabetes to interfere with his Rugby and he is now an England player.

Dr Chris gave a short talk and then there was a question and answer session with Henry. The children got to ask him questions and then all had a photo opportunity with him.

It was a highly successful evening and all the children came away realising that they will be able to "follow their dream" and not let Type 1 hold them back in any way.
