Diabetes remission

We have met several people recently who are celebrating being in remission from Type 2 diabetes. This is a relatively new term that you may have heard in the press, but the headlines don’t always tell the whole story. The people who we heard from have used a mixture of changing their diet and increasing exercise to successfully get their blood glucose back to a normal level, without using any diabetes medications. However the term remission rather than cure is used because Type 2 diabetes might come back. This means it is really important that people in remission continue to get regular check-ups. What is clear from the on-going research is that no two people are the same and whilst the talk of remission is exciting it is not going to be achievable for everyone. There is still more research to be done. If you are interested in reading more about this click here to access a Diabetes UK blog.
