We had a stall at the St Thomas Festival on Sept 1st. Thanks to all the volunteers who turned out to help. We had a good day chatting to the public about diabetes, helping to raise awareness and making new contacts. It was a lovely sunny day and an enjoyable event. One of the volunteers entered their dog in the dog show and got third prize!
We had some volunteers running the 'Know Your Risk' programme. This involved people working through a simple questionnaire and measuring their height, weight and waist circumference to find out their risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the next ten years. Several people we spoke to found out that they were at high risk of developing diabetes. We sent them off with some information about how to make lifestyle changes to reduce their risk and a referral letter to their GP.
We were also running a white elephant stall, which raised £50. People also gave some generous donations in our collecting pot. This money will go toward supporting Diabetes research.
