Thank you message from Andrew Hatterley for donation to research

I am writing to thank all the members of the Exeter Diabetes UK group for the incredibly generous donation of £1,000 towards Diabetes research funded by Diabetes UK in Exeter.

The money will be used to support our latest research funded by Diabetes UK which is led by Dr Angus Jones titled “Combining clinical features and biomarkers to identify patients with Type 1 diabetes in later life”.  This research is aiming to answer the very difficult question of how can we recognize Type 1 diabetes when it occurs after the age of 50 years.  The study will produce the crucially needed evidence to allow doctors to identify if a person has Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes at diagnosis and so will benefit people diagnosed with diabetes throughout the UK and the world.   Thank you so much for supporting it.

It was a magnificent amount of money to raise from a small, dedicated group of people. Thank you all for your amazing fund raising efforts.  We will make sure your efforts make a difference by working very hard to ensure the research is of the highest standard and the results influence doctors everywhere.

All very best wishes to all the group.

Yours sincerely,

Prof Andrew Hattersley FRS CBE

Professor of Molecular Medicine and Consultant Physician in Diabetes
